Wide Roads, Fast Traffic, Dead Car.
Stopped on the exit 191 ramp, shut down on Wickham, or sitting still on Stadium Parkway while everything around you does fifty. One call and a certified Imperial operator is headed up.
Interstate and arterial response
New Roads Are Built To Be Driven Fast.

Viera does not look dangerous. The pavement is smooth, the lanes are wide, the sight lines are long, and there is a shoulder in most places. That is exactly the problem. Roads that feel comfortable get driven at speeds nobody would attempt on an older, narrower street, and a stopped car on a road like that gets found late by a driver who was not expecting one. Add the I-95 ramps at exit 191, where cars are already accelerating hard to merge, and you have a place that generates serious calls out of ordinary failures. Imperial Towing has been running this county for 28 years, and we treat a Viera breakdown as a speed problem more than a distance problem.
The first thing is the same everywhere. Hazards on, right away. The second thing is a question: does the car still roll?
Use the shoulder, and then use more of it
If you can steer the car, get it past the white line and keep going. On Wickham or Stadium Parkway that means a driveway cut into a lot if there is one nearby, and along this stretch there usually is. If you are on I-95 or a ramp, get as far right as the surface allows, two wheels off the pavement, all four if the ground will hold them. People stop with the car half in the lane because they do not want to put a tire in the grass. Put the tire in the grass. Grass is a repair. A lane is not.
Where everyone stands is the safety decision
On the interstate and its ramps, nobody stays seated in the car if there is a way out. Everyone exits through the doors on the side away from traffic, then walks back along the shoulder and up the embankment, well behind the vehicle. Behind it, never in front of it, and never into the space between the car and the guardrail. That narrow gap looks protected and it is the worst place to be standing if something hits your car.
There is one exception and it matters here. If your car ended up somewhere with no shoulder and no way off the road, a median, a bridge span, a live lane, then getting out puts you in traffic. Stay belted inside with the hazards on. Call 911 first so a deputy can shield the scene, then reach us at (321) 499-4610. Anyone injured, 911 comes before every other call, including ours.
The four questions on the phone
What you are driving. Where you are. Whether the wheels roll and steer. Whether anyone is hurt or the car sits in a live lane. That is the whole call, and each answer changes something about the truck we send and how fast it leaves.
Location on the interstate means the exit number or mile marker plus the direction, northbound or southbound. On a ramp, name the ramp and the direction rather than just exit 191, because the entrance and the exit are different places. On Wickham, the last light you passed and the businesses in front of you work fine. On Stadium Parkway, where there is less to point at, give us the cross street and the direction you were headed, then whatever you can see: a school entrance, a field, the ballpark, a subdivision gate.
Some of these calls have a clock on them
A fair number of Viera breakdowns involve somebody trying to get to the medical campus. An appointment they waited months for, a procedure with a check-in time, a relative in a bed. If that is you, say it on the phone. It changes how the call gets sequenced, and sometimes the right answer is not about the car at all: you get where you need to be and we deal with the vehicle while you are inside. What we will not do is let you sit on a shoulder guessing whether to abandon the car. Tell the dispatcher what actually matters and we will work around it.
Rain on smooth new pavement
A hard afternoon squall on these roads takes speed and adds standing water, which is how cars end up in medians here. If you have spun or slid off and come to rest somewhere, look before you unbuckle. Live lanes on both sides means you stay put and call 911. A clear path away from traffic means take it, walking back and away rather than forward.
And if you drove into standing water and the engine quit, do not try to restart it. Not once. Cranking a flooded engine turns a tow into a rebuild. Leave it, get to dry ground, and tell our dispatcher how deep the water was so the operator brings the right reach.
What arrives
- A certified operator: trained, insured, and badged for Patrick SFB and Kennedy Space Center access.
- The scene lit and shielded: lights up and the truck placed as a barrier before the hookup starts.
- A straight price: the number said out loud before we roll, never a surprise at the end.
- A very short run: Viera is minutes north of the Melbourne yard, with I-95 and Wickham both available.
- 28 years in Brevard: police and municipal work, including the City of Melbourne contract.
Once the danger is behind you
Plenty of calls end with the car safely in a lot and nothing worse than a wasted afternoon. What is left is a ride to a shop, and if the car needs all four wheels off the ground our Viera flatbed towing page covers how that works. A dead battery, a flat, or keys locked inside often clears where you sit with roadside assistance, and a car that simply will not start is straightforward light towing. Everything we run here is on the Viera service page, with the full list under our services.
Sitting on a shoulder watching traffic go by right now? Get clear of the car, then call (321) 499-4610 or send us your location.
